#Mamavation Mondays

17 Oct

Phew, what a week! My dad and I spent ALL day Saturday moving him into his new apartment and I’m SOOOOOOOORE! Lifting my arms to wash my hair was an adventure. ūüôā Especially since I bit it on our last trip and sprained my ankle and smashed my left arm. I am rocking a bunch of bruises all sorts of various colors. Thankfully B came to our rescue and helped Dad with the last load. Despite the soreness, I had an awesome day with my dad.

This week’s blogging question:¬†What parts of your body are you especially proud of right now? What makes you love them?

My calves, for sure! My calves are the most muscular and defined part of my body. They’re pretty hawt if I do say so myself!

No, I didn't take a nekkid pic. I have shorts on. ūüôā

This week’s breakdown…¬†My fitness and steps are seriously lacking this week due to my various lumps, bumps and bruises, but I think I more than made up for them with 12 solid hours of moving and lifting. Oy. ¬†Water intake had been on point. Even if I don’t want to drink water and hobble to the bathroom all the time.¬†

#Mamavation Mondays

10 Oct

Short and sweet is the name of the game today.

B and I are pet sitting a dog the size of a pony and he’s more than a little rambunctious today. He’s demanding lots and lots of attention. I’m not feel well and my energy level is seriously lacking.

This dang dog takes my spot in bed AND took over the cuddle duties.

The Horse is an equal opportunity snuggler.

I don't feel well! I just. want. to. take. a. NAP!

The evil hag is around, but I’m holding strong at that same too big number. I’m curious to see where my weight is going to be when she packs her bags and peaces out.

Here’s the breakdown…

Water- 90 oz average each day

Moving my azz- #2weekchallenge is continuing to kick my butt.

Weight change this week- 0 lbs

Operations Get Fit total loss- 32 lbs

I’m a little disappointed. I keep¬†fluctuating at the same +/- .5lbs. I’m still down a grand total of 32 lbs since starting Operation Get Fit, which is a HUGE accomplishment, (*Insert self back pat*) but I’ve been working my azz off with the¬†#2weekchallenge, walking/running, weights and portion control. I’m seeing definite changes in my clothes and body, just not the stupid scale. Doggoneit.

One of the most important things I can do to help myself on this journey to getting healthy, is to drink more water. And get moving more!

Growing up we almost never¬†had pop in our house. Yes, it IS pop! Calling pop soda just doesn’t sound right… Pop was a treat reserved for special occasions. We drank water, milk, Crystal Light or apple cider.

Once I lived in the school dorms/moved out, I went pop crazy. I was in charge of what went in my body and I wanted all the good tasting but bad for you food and drinks I rarely got to have growing up. I lived on fast food, cafeteria dorm food and pop for longer than

I care to admit. And I wonder how I gained so much weight. DUH! It was easy, fast and I didn’t have to burn¬†make it.

Now that I’m a grown-up (HA!) I’m way more conscious of what I put in my body.

I don’t even keep pop in the house anymore.

I was searching for a photo of Diet Coke with Lime, my all time favorite pop, and I got this. What the crap. And, EW!!!

But drinking water is still a major hurdle for me.

So, I’m taking part in the¬†Brita Challenge¬†to help me make drinking water a lifelong habit.

I pledged to take part a week ago and I have been slacking.

I’m putting it all out there and asking you to keep me accountable. Knowing that other people are going to chew my butt if I don’t follow through is some powerful motivation. It’s the whole Oldest Child, I can’t disappoint anyone thing… plus it’s good for me.

On the days that I’ve made a effort to get in my 8 glasses, this has become my best friend. Especially at 2am when I drink a whole bunch of water before bed. I never claimed to be the brightest…¬†

On the bright side, the whole I’m going to drink more water thing is also beneficial in the burning calories department. I’m getting in more steps to the bathroom and back and my potty dance is preeeeetty intense.

Do you do anything to flavor your water? I’m not so much a fan of boring water, I’d love some suggestions!

#Mamavation Mondays

25 Sep

There are moments where the weekly focus of  Mamavation is spot. on.

This would not be one of those weeks.

I don’t¬†camp.

Definitely NOT our family camping.

When camping, I turn into a small child.

I don’t do nature.

There’s a running family joke about me being somewhere in nature and screaming¬†stating that I. Hate. Nature!

I really don’t do nature. I like having my creature comforts. Electricity, shower, toilet paper, a bed.

Camping was what we did for our family vacations.

I think I was 14-ish when we went on The Big Vacation.

My parents, my three sisters and I drove from Michigan to Washington.

Let’s do the math…

One man

Not our van, but not an exaggeration.

One mom

FOUR daughters

ONE tent

One van.

3.5 weeks

All. Together.

The drive back to Michigan from Washington was just my dad and his girls. Dad did all the driving. Dad made all the camping reservations.

Meaning we drove allllllllll day long, setting up camp in the dark. Electricity was a rarity. Almost as rare as toilets with a door…or that flushed.

I’ve been scarred for life.

I don’t do nature.

Question: Where are you planning for your feet to take you before 2011 ends? Any races or training plans?

I don’t have any plans other than to have my feet moving.

This is the time of year where I start adding my layers of inner insulation. On top of last year’s insulation…¬†First comes Halloween and all the left over candy which just so happens to run out around Thanksgiving. Then there’s the birthday cake. And Christmas parties. And B’s birthday. And family Christmas parties. And eating my feelings from family Christmas parties. It’s a¬†viscous, viscous cycle.

Putting one foot in front of the other and keep moving is my only plan.¬†¬†I can’t let life get the better of me. I’ve got to make and keep getting moving a priority this time of year!

I CANNOT believe I almost forgot!

The Two Week Challenge recap!

As much as it hurt and I said some not so nice things in my head, I got some serious results! And of course I can’t find where I put the numbers, but I lost inches! Once I find where my scatter brained self put the numbers, I’ll post.

Sign me up for the next one!

Son of a Monkey’s Uncle!

16 Sep

Hubster and I are going out to dinner tonight.

Like an honest to goodness date.

I had a cute outfit all planned out in my head.

I was ex-cit-ted!

I can’t even tell you the last time we did this!

We have a house guest today.

I’m seriously in love with this little man.¬†

This means I was up bright and early.

but definitely not¬†bright-eyed and bushy tailed…!¬†

For some unknown reason I didn’t fall asleep until after 2am.

AKA- Someone didn’t shower this morning before the house guest arrived.

When Little Man went down for a nap I jumped in the shower and crossed my fingers that Little Man would sleep long enough for me to put on some makeup.

Please, please, please, please! Makeup is totally¬†part of the outfit. In a woman’s mind…

Little Man slept long enough that I was able to do the best smokey eye I’ve ever done.

While Little Man was still sleeping, I grabbed my clothes for The Outfit.

I could not find my jeans!

The only pair of jeans I own at this moment that fit. Because all my other jeans are too big. AND these jeans make my ass look a-mazing. #winning!

I could not find my jeans anywhere.

I¬†literally¬†tore my house apart… but extremely quietly! Little Man was still sleeping.

Then I found them.

In the washer.

I totally forgot I threw them in there the last time I did laundry.

Enough days ago that the whole load is smelling more than a little funk-ay.

Everything needed to be washed again. There’s not enough time to wash and probably wash again and dry before date time.

This means instead of looking like this-

Except shorter, wider and with darker hair...

Brian will be going to dinner with this-

For better, for worse…right?

At least my makeup is flawless.

#Mamavation Monday

11 Sep

Man, it’s good to be back! I honestly don’t know how long it’s been since I posted a Mamavation Monday post.

Last week the holiday really threw me. I had no idea what day of the week it was and totally spaced. My bad.

The weeks before I was dealing with some serious emotional¬†upheaval in my life. I don’t really want to talk about it, but I’m on my way to okay.¬†Promise. As is¬†was my habit, I ate my feelings. And gained a few pounds back. Dirty words…

I’m making some healthier decisions for myself. I’m coming out of the funk and I’m getting back to kicking ass and taking names. I’m focusing on portions sizes what what I’m eating portions of and water intake. When it comes to water I’m an all or nothing kind of girl. I really¬†need to curb my pop drinking.

The part I love to hate of my becoming human again is taking part in the Mamavation Two Week Challenge.

Oh, holy night. I don’t know if I’ve ever been this sore in my life.

But I’m loving it!

It hurts and it’s difficult, but I’m doing it! Maybe I’m a masochist, but oh does hurt so good.¬†

Most impressive to me is that I’m sticking¬†with it. Having the accountability of daily report ins and the step by step layout of the workouts is HUGE!

Question: When was the last time you got new workout shoes?  What do you use them for?

I honestly don’t remember the last time I bought new workout shoes. Though I do remember the extreme sticker shock… It’s been at least a few years. I’m almost positive I’ve had the same pair of workout shoes longer that I’ve known B.

No, I didn't take a nekkid pic. I have shorts on. ūüôā

They’re still in really, really good condition.

Because I never used them until I wrote the post that changed my life.

And it took me a while to psych myself up into using the treadmill.

And  little while longer to become a regular user. *Insert very sheepish look here*

These Asics are amazeballs. Gel inserts, super cushion-y sole, no pinching anywhere- ever, no blisters. A serious shoe-gasm.

While these shoes are fabulous, I’m thinking of having my gait analyzed at one of the local running stores and buying myself an ungodly¬†expensive pair of running shoes once I’m employed again.¬†I don’t know if it’s the shoes, how I run, an old injury, or what but I get some really bad lower back pain some days after running. I should probably look into that, eh?

I also have a pair of Reebok Easy Tones that I wear EVERYWHERE. ¬†I LOVE these shoes. They’re number 2 on the list of most comfortable tennis shoes I’ve ever worn. Another serious shoe-gasm. For. Reals.

Have an awesome week, Sistas and I promise to try and get back in the swing of posting!

#Mamavation Mondays

21 Aug

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

I finally have my head above water again! School is done and I have vast amounts of unemployment free time stretching before me.

I can get back to Mamavation and regularly working out. Finally!

My workouts took a backseat to school. Let’s be honest, everything¬†took a backseat to school. Even ‘homework’. I was so focused on my concentrated classes that all I did was eat, breathe, sleep homework, practicals, clinicals. My house and husband were rather neglected.

I want to get back into working out.

I need to get back into working out.

I’m cranky. Just ask Brian…

I’m not sleeping well.

I can see and feel my body moving backwards. Things that I used to be able to do with ease are difficult.

I’m back on the workout horse. I now realize how important is it for me to make and schedule time for working out. Waking up 30 minutes earlier kinda sucks, but those 30 minutes of sweating will pay off big time in the long run.

Now that I have a lot of free time is the perfect opportunity to start and maintain a Sweat Schedule. If it’s habit now, it’ll be habit later when more of my time is spoken for.

Question: Why do you think exploring intimacy is an important part of a healthy lifestyle?

Wow, what a topic to come back to! I’m definitely not posting this to facebook where my mother, father, younger sisters and in-laws can see it! Awkward!!!

For me, intimacy and venerability are things that are deeply seated in trust and love. Two extremely important parts of a marriage. And sex, sex is a very important part in a marriage. Sex and intimacy are physical expressions of how Brian and I feel for each other. As our marriage and relationship evolve and get deeper and stronger, there are different ways for us to express it.

And sex feels good. Physically and emotionally. Who doesn’t want to feeeeeeel better?!

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaack!

20 Aug

Maybe not by popular demand, but I *am* back. ūüôā

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

I finally finished school with the world’s worst and most disorganized teacher ever. Hallelujah!

I’ve officially passed my classes (with a 98%, thank you very much! *insert pack pat here)¬†and I’m in the process of filling out (a bajillion and one)¬†job applications and trying to schedule my state boards.

Now that classes are done and I’m completely unemployed ¬†swimming in free time, it’s time to get my life in order. My house is a hawt mess, I have a pile of laundry that’s almost as tall as I am and my lawn could double as a forest. It’s probably a good thing we don’t kids or pets. I’d be terrified they’d get lost forever.¬†Seriously, I feel like I could legit be on Hoaders…not good.¬†

This week has been a complete whirlwind. I finished clinicals Thursday and got my certificate. Friday I spent the day amking phone calls and taking my car in to get the¬†maintenance required light checked out. ***Note to self, maintenance required is completely different¬†than check engine. You may feel like an azz for not knowing the difference. And you certainly will want to smack the man telling you, “It’s okay, Little Lady, I wouldn’t ‘spect you to know the difference. I’m surprised half you little ladies know the gas is on the right most the time. Jackhole.***

I’m going to be worthless today. I slept a whopping 10.5 hours last night… after a 3.5 hour nap Friday afternoon.¬†I’m totally in debt to the sleep bank, those quality hours in bed were much¬†needed. And B got a kick out of my redonkulous bed head. Lol.

This evening B and I will be heading to my Mom’s house for a good-bye dinner for my oldest younger sister before she leaves tomorrow morning to move to North Carolina. It’s going to be a little bittersweet to see her move 12-ish hours away, but hellooooooo awesome vacay destination! I’m excited for her to embark on a new adventure. Love you, Mel!¬†

On the health front-

I don’t know if it’s been the stress of classes, practicals and clinicals or something else, but Aunt Flo has been completely MIA. She’s a full three weeks late. And I got my hopes up. Again. My consultation with Dr. EPT resulted in a big fat negative (BFN) and I was okay-ish with it. I was in the middle of classes, there’s been a lot of family stuff going on and B was having a whole bunch of seizures.

Despite the BFN, I’m more upset about the disappearance of my period. Things were really looking good. I was getting my period mostly regularly and I was feeling really good. I felt like I had some kind of control over my body and what was going on with it. I have an appointment coming up this month with my doctor and I think I have to ask for a referral to a specialist. The infertility is disappointing, but I’m more worried about the insulin resistance. What I’m doing right now it’s working. I’m worried about what’s going on with my liver and pancreas. If I’m not on the right medications or should be doing something different I want to know. I need¬†to know.

Workouts have taken a backseat to everything else these past few weeks, but that’s all about to change. I’m excited to FINALLY get back in the swing of things and back to¬†Mamavation!

And that’s been my life this past month.

What’s been happening with you? What have I missed out on?

Five Finger Fridays

30 Jul

This week totally got away from me. Oops.

It was a busy week, but still an awesome week. Here’s Five Finger Fridays¬†on Saturday. A day late. Dangit!

I had the most awesome afternoon hanging out, cooking and organized some of my hawt mess cupboards. Martha Stewart doesn’t have shiz on us! I can now make- stir-fry with homemade, low cal, low sodium stir-fry sauce; chicken,¬†broccoli rice dish and a fabulous¬†looking and smelling pot roast with potatoes and carrots in the crock pot. Seriously, I don’t know what to eat first!

Not only have I tripled my cooking abilities, but I got to spend hours of time with mi madre. It’s been a long¬†time since Momma and I have had a mother/daughter date. We laughed, we cried and had a grand ole time. Now that I’m a grown up our schedules have.not.meshed. I’ve missed Momma and it was awesome to get to spend the afternoon with her.

Mount Laundry has been conquered. Honest to goodness I have no idea how two people make so.much.flipping.laundry! There are only two of us! It seems like I do more laundry for B and myself that I did when I lived at home with my parents and three sisters! How two people make more laundry than 5 women does not compute.

While it sucks that I’m not working right now, my house has never been more clean. I never realized how important a clean house was to me. And cleaning is relaxing! Who knew. ¬†There’s something¬†therapeutic¬†¬†about seeing dull and dirty transformed to bright and gleaming that puts a smile on my face. Now if I could just get B to get the warm fuzzies about cleaning…

I am beyond thankful, grateful and overwhelmed by the love and support of my twitter friends. Earlier this week¬†some Buttface¬†said something extremely hurtful and these people were here to support me. Most of these people I’ve never met in real life, but that didn’t matter. To each and every one of you, thank you. Words can’t express how much your words meant to me. I love you all!

And that’s my awesome week. ūüôā

What amazing things happened to *you* this week?
