Five Finger Fridays

26 Aug

Five Finger Fridays are back!

I really needed the FFF today. I’m feeling pretty blue today. Okay, this week. I’ve been seriously lacking in ambition, gumption, get up and go-ness.

I’m not exactly feeling like a productive member or society (or my family) without a job…unless you count making Laura shaped ass prints on various piece of furniture and watching my house progressively get more and more messy.

I was excited to get back on the workout horse. I’d been making leaps and strides (haha) in my pace and distances running. I was going to OWN it when I got back on the treadmill. I was all about getting back to running.

And Monday I did. It’d been a few weeks since and my run sucked. So I gave up.

I let myself have a pity party and now it’s over.

Maybe not totally over, but I’m gonna fake it until I make it.

Starting with FFF. Because no matter how much I feel like things suck right now, there is always something to be thankful for.

My oldest younger sister got her first teaching gig. All the way in North Carolina. Which is a looooooooong way from where we are, but she made the 700 mile trek all by herself. Safely. Thankfully her car decided running was optional after she got there safely.

I know it’s a bit late, but I’m finally done with that horrible class. And I am completely OVERJOYED.

My youngest sister turns 16 this weekend. Gulp!  I can’t believe she’s growing up so quickly…sure makes me feel more than a little old!

My middle younger sister moved into her new dorms. She’s going through a huge transition, but she seems to be liking it so far! I wouldn’t know she moved before I even knew she was leaving. Oh, to be young and free…

Wednesday our cousin and Brian’s best man became a Daddy. Dave and Shelley have waited a long time for their precious miracle. Shelley had a less than easy pregnancy, but Tessa is here and healthy. Mommy and Daddy are overjoyed.

What awesome things happened to you this week?

Five Finger Fridays

30 Jul

This week totally got away from me. Oops.

It was a busy week, but still an awesome week. Here’s Five Finger Fridays on Saturday. A day late. Dangit!

I had the most awesome afternoon hanging out, cooking and organized some of my hawt mess cupboards. Martha Stewart doesn’t have shiz on us! I can now make- stir-fry with homemade, low cal, low sodium stir-fry sauce; chicken, broccoli rice dish and a fabulous looking and smelling pot roast with potatoes and carrots in the crock pot. Seriously, I don’t know what to eat first!

Not only have I tripled my cooking abilities, but I got to spend hours of time with mi madre. It’s been a long time since Momma and I have had a mother/daughter date. We laughed, we cried and had a grand ole time. Now that I’m a grown up our schedules have.not.meshed. I’ve missed Momma and it was awesome to get to spend the afternoon with her.

Mount Laundry has been conquered. Honest to goodness I have no idea how two people make so.much.flipping.laundry! There are only two of us! It seems like I do more laundry for B and myself that I did when I lived at home with my parents and three sisters! How two people make more laundry than 5 women does not compute.

While it sucks that I’m not working right now, my house has never been more clean. I never realized how important a clean house was to me. And cleaning is relaxing! Who knew.  There’s something therapeutic  about seeing dull and dirty transformed to bright and gleaming that puts a smile on my face. Now if I could just get B to get the warm fuzzies about cleaning…

I am beyond thankful, grateful and overwhelmed by the love and support of my twitter friends. Earlier this week some Buttface said something extremely hurtful and these people were here to support me. Most of these people I’ve never met in real life, but that didn’t matter. To each and every one of you, thank you. Words can’t express how much your words meant to me. I love you all!

And that’s my awesome week. 🙂

What amazing things happened to *you* this week?

Friday Flip Offs on Thursday because I’m Classy Like That.

28 Jul

I’ve found  yet another amazingly awesome blog Mama Kiss.  The first post I ever read of Mama Kiss’s was a Friday Flip Off post and I loved it!

Fridays are reserved for Five Finger Fridays so I’m stealing the concept today. I’ve got a lot to get off my oh so ample chest and I’m about to flip.the.heck.out. So help me, I am this  close to the straw that broke the camel’s back. Not that the things on my chest are helping… I’m not a big fan of the middle finger, I use the Über sarcastic thumbs up. If you ever see me driving and I give an overly enthusiastic thumbs up now you know what it really means. I’m a little terrified shooting up the middle finger will set off someone’s road rage and I want no part of that…

*Side note. In the middle of trying to write this post, some poor, unsuspecting telemarketer happened to call. What’sHisFace O’PainInMyAss is now the proud new owner of a few newly ripped ass holes courtesy of my bubbling rage.* You’re welcome.

Chuck Norris giving the thumbs up made me smile.

Sarcastic Thumbs Up Numero Uno belongs to… *drum roll, please!*

Companies that make scrubs!

While I appreciate the fun designs and colors scrubs are available in, you need to work on your sizes. I would love to wear a shirt that doesn’t look like I’m smuggling watermelons or pregnant. You need a Large and a 1/2 size please. The large scrub top brought lots and lots of attention to the girls. They were lifted and on display. While there are time I may appreciate that look, clinicals and in the work place are NOT. Thank-you-very-much! Large obviously is not going to work, so I tried on the XL. Or should I say potato sack. While there is a tie to cinch the waist to give a bit of a figure, PREGNANT is not the look I’m going for. The scrub tops cinch, but bunch. Not attractive. So help me if someone asks me when I’m due!

And the scrub pants. Oy.

Would it kill you to make a petite version? I’m a little tea pot, short AND stout. I mean really. I can’t be the only one, right?

Sarcastic Thumbs Up Numero Dos.

Walmart, you are a multi-billion dollar corporation. Would it kill you to have toilet paper that doesn’t feel like sand paper on the lady bits?! Not at all pleasant.

Sarcastic Thumbs Up number 3 gets a double gun salute!

The nameless, faceless, spineless jerkface hiding behind the internet who decided to comment on this here blog and tell me that if I was a better Christian, if I prayed better/longer/harder God would bless me with a baby by now.

The offending comment was promptly deleted. While I’m open to suggestions and (mostly) all comments (the ones offering adult services are also deleted…) that crossed the line.

Um, excuse me?!?!

Obviously this person has no idea what it’s like to have fertility issues. I’m sure I’m not alone in my daily, hourly prayers for a solution to my infertility. To know that having a child is a possibility. How dare they decide that I’m not a good person or Christian based on a blog.

How dare they!

I know I’m not perfect. I know there are areas of my life that need vast improvements. None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes, wrong choices. We’re all flawed.

It’s called being human.

We’re using the free will God gave us.

And thanks for giving Christianity such a great name, Jerkface!

Phew, I feel a lot better now. And it was a lot cheaper than therapy. Winning!

Do you have any Friday Flip Offs this week?

Five Finger Fridays!

22 Jul

  It’s Friday! Whoop, whoop!

That means it’s time for another addition of Five Finger Fridays…where I focus on the good things and five great things that happened in my life this week. I have a tendency to focus on the negative. My name is Laura, but it could definitely be Negative Nancy at times.

I registered and paid  for my classes today! Last week I was a tease about exciting things happening in my life. Yes, I know being a tease isn’t a good thing. Monday I was finally able to spill the beans about my decision to go back to school.

As much as it sucks and as sad as I am to quit my job, going back to school will give me Brian and our future family a lot more opportunities in life. I haven’t always been a fan of school or fully applied myself… but nursing is something I’m passionate about. I’m quite excited about this new life adventure!

After a hours long absence, my home internet is FINALLY back up and running. It only took one phone call! Bonus!

We’ve had a heat wave here in The Mitten this week. We finally got some MUCH needed rain today. Ten minutes after I got our brand new sprinkler up and working…! But we got rain! Woohoo!

As a sista in Mamavation I’ve been introduced to Grunt Style. And I’m not just talking about the eye candy! Not only does Grunt Style sell awesome apparel, but he’s designed a workout program that is INTENSE!  Monday I talked about how I was terrified  nervous about doing one of the workouts. I’m proud to say I did it and I lived to tell the tale! I may still have sore abs two days later, but it’s a good kind of sore. The kind that lets me know I’m doing something good for myself. And I’m excited to try the other workouts!

This one is my personal favorite…

I’m wearing a dress that’s too big in the midsection. It fits in the boobicle region, but that’s another story. I’m just thankful THOSE aren’t growing! It *looks* too big. Looooove!

What awesome things happened in *your*life this week? 🙂

#Mamavation Mondays

18 Jul

Holy crap, it’s Monday again and that means Mamavation Mondays! Here’s this week’s blogging prompt

Question: What has been your favorite Grunt Style workout? If you aren’t doing his workouts what has been your strength training routine?

Honestly, I haven’t done tried any of the workouts because I’m more than a little terrified.

But! It’s high time I had some more confidence in myself, put my big girl pants on, and suck it up,  Buttercup.

I’m going to do it!

What’s the worst that can happen? I burn calories? Oh, the horror!

This week has been seriously re-donk-u-lous.

There was a lot of stuff going on. Just like every other week…

But, I scheduled time to exercise. And I stuck with it!

I ran Monday, Wednesday and Friday. By Friday, running was a whole lot easier! Imagine that! I’m taking part in a virtual half marathon. I’m committed. I’m focused. I’m going to do it. I’m running for the exercise, the endorphin high and the 3x a week running to become habit.

The only down fall is you can’t out train bad eating habits… and mine were less than stellar this week.

Friday I wrote a post where I was a tease. There were some HUGE things happening in my life that pretty much had me scared shitless. And eating a lot of crap…

Today all the appropriate people know, all the Ts have been crossed and the Is have been dotted and I can share.

I put in my two week notice at work.

I’m quitting my job and going back to school.

Now that the decision has been made and everything is out and I can’t take it back, I feel like a giant weight has been lifted. If only the scale would show that…

This post is sponsored by Grunt Style and I’m writing this to be entered into a giveaway hosted by Mamavation and sponsored by Grunt Style.

Five Finger Fridays

15 Jul

It’s Friday again! Seriously, it seems like the older I get, the faster time goes. I’m not sure how I feel about that yet…

This week has been a complete roller coaster of emotions.

B and I had our second anniversary. Woohoo!

Yet another person I know announced they’re pregnant. I’m excited for the parents to be, but every time I hear someone else I know is pregnant when it’s not an option for me just plain sucks. It hurts and I’m more than a little jealous. I’m hoping over time the news won’t hurt as much but right now it just sucks.

B and I have some pretty HUGE  decisions to make about jobs and school and money and I’m kind of freaking out a little. How B stays so. flipping. calm. when I have trouble sleeping at night because I’m so worried and stressed I’ll never know. Oh, to be male and be able to get over things…

Even with all the crazy stuff going on in our lives right now, there’s still a lot to be thankful for!

I’ve gone for runs twice this week and even set my personal best!  The Run Hades virtual half marathon starts today and I’m super excited! Never did I ever think I would be this excited about working out. Nevah did I evah!

I got to spend some quality time with my Dad on Wednesday. It’d been a few weeks since we’ve had coffee together and I was really glad to see him. Being a married , mortgage holding ‘adult’ has some serious benefits, but frank discussions with a parent fall in that gray area of I feel bad ass in the things I’m saying and Oh, snap… did I really just say/talk about that with MY FATHER?!?!?!

I also spent quality time with my Mom, Melissa, Abbey and Hannah last night. I think the massive amounts of laughing we all did counts as a workout. My abs are sore! We’re all attending a wedding shower this weekend with a lot of aunts and cousins and that’s going to be another laugh-fest. I can’t wait!

I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. I didn’t go to the midnight show last night, but I am going to see it tomorrow with my cousin Emma and I’m pretty flipping excited about it! It’s always nice to have some time with family/friends. 🙂

There are some really exciting developments going on in my life right now that have huge potential for some pretty big changes soon. And that’s all I can/will say about it right now. I know that makes me a tease and teasing isn’t nice, but things aren’t completely figured out and finalized. I have to let people (who potentially read this blog) know, in person, first. I promise to share as soon as I can.

No, it’s not a baby. I wish.

And that’s what I’m thankful for this week.

What awesome things happened in your life this week?

Five Finger Fridays

8 Jul

Ah! It’s Friday!

I’ve have the most difficult time keeping track of what day of the week it is!

Vacations are amazing but I’m so lost on dates and days.

Seriously, I could use a vacation to recover from my vacation. No joke.

Here’s what I’m thankful for this week.

Getting to spend awesome, amazing, much needed quality time with my bff Rachel and her spectacular kids and husband. Seriously, there are no words to describe how excited I was to spend time with them! There are some times you’re going through some shiz and you need you very bestest best friend.  Are yew sloooooooow? 🙂

While getting to spend time with Rach, I also got to meet a twitter and facebook friend, Katie, IRL. We laughed we talked, we ate. It was a fabulous way to spend a vacation!

I had a fabulous time with the girls, but B was also on vacation the same time I was. I literally got to spend my entire vacation with some of my most favorite people in the world. That’s the stuff dream vacations are made of.

This one is waaaaaay TMI!

Aunt Flo came to town for real this week. I’m glad she’s making semi-regular visits. Even if she is an evil hag.

This last one kinda sucks for me, but it’s actually a good thing…

My client died this week.

It stinks that I lost a whole bunch of hours, but my client was very old, sick and unhappy. Now she isn’t suffering anymore. And thank goodness for that, poor thing was miserable.

What are you thankful for this week?

Five Finger Friday!

1 Jul

I’m amazed by how quickly this week has gone! It’s Friday! Wahooooooo! And that means it’s Five Finger Friday time! Five things from the week that I’m thankful for. One for each finger on my hand.

I’m pleasantly surprised and thankful to have made it to work on time every day this week! So far at least… this is my weekend to work. I’ve managed to make it to work on time despite my differing start times and lack of functioning alarm clock. Truly a miracle. I loooooove my sleep!

I have no words to express how thankful I am that I DIDN’T forget my phone this morning. I would go so far as to say I’m addicted to my phone. It’s my lifeline to friends, family, facebook and twitter. It’s my phone, it’s my internet, my map, my email. I’m not kidding when I say addicted. Is there a 12-Step program for phone addicts?

I’m soooooo thankful my quads aren’t on fire today! I worked out Tuesday with a friend of mine who is abosolutely ripped. In my quest to kick his ass keep up I maaaaaay have rubbed it in gone a little overboard. I was s-o-r-e! I was actually able to get up, move around and go to the bathroom without wanting to cry. Thankful doesn’t even begin to describe how I feel about this! 🙂

I’m thankful it’s grilling season again. Cooking is not my forte, but I can grill like nobody’s business! Grilling season means less eating out (saving money!!!!), less processed foods and a growing confidence in my ability to make edible meals for my family.

And last but certainly not least!

I have some vacation this week! At the same time B has vacation time! Hellooooooo quality time with The Husband!
My bestest best friend since 7th grade, Rachel is going to be in town!
With three of the most adorable kidlets on earth!
AND Rachel and I get to meet and spend time with Katie! One of the coolest people on twitter. (Once I have wireless access I’ll link her up. Seriously, these women are awesome!)

I hope you all have an awesome, fabulous, fun, safe 4th of July weekend!

Five Finger Friday

17 Jun

No, I’m not a closet klepto. No, not that either!

Whenever my Mom heard me talking smack about myself she would make me say five nice things about myself. One for each finger. And she would sit there until I said all five. Out loud. Seriously.

I’m putting a little different spin on it.

I feel like this blog has become a place to bitch about being infertile and overweight. While I’m taking steps to change those two things, there is more to my life.

And that thankful tab I have is getting pretty neglected…

Starting today, Fridays  will have five things in my life I’m thankful for. Thankful Thursday would have been catchier, but this idea came to me while I was brushing my teeth this morning. Random, but that’s me! 🙂

So here it is, my first installment of Five Finger Fridays. Woooo!

I’m thankful for Brian. He came to my defense this week when someone crossed the line. I’ve never seen B angry, but he was PISSED. Surprised me a little, but I loved it. He’s my Prince Charming and knight in shining armor all rolled in to one. Swoon!

I’m thankful for my SIL Lacey. While this whole separation business sucks ass, Lacey has been an AMAZING support to me. Whoda thunk one separation would bring two other people together?

I hit EVERY SINGLE LIGHT green this morning on my way to work. How can I not be thankful about that? Especially when the person in front of my was ordering coffee for the ENTIRE office…

I’m very thankful for all the people I’ve connected with on twitter recently. The network of women who are incredibly supportive in this whole infertility circus who I’ve never met blows. Me. Away.

Last but not least… drum roll please!

I’m thankful for my oldest little sister Melissa who turns 22 today! Holy crap! If she’s 22, that makes me… old. Happy Birthday, Melissa. You’ve blossomed this past year into a fabulous woman who is coming into her own. Happy Birthday, Melmore. I love you!

And that’s what I’m thankful for this week.
